Is the Internet boring ? Mark Cuban’s post created loads of activity in the blogosphere. However his point was quite simple the Internet had matured to the point of becoming a commodity. I think his point is reasonably well made. He still dreams of ways of monetizing the Internet through segment of one advertising on Facebook etc. But how many social recommendation sites can you have? How many people really use social recommendations, as opposed to professional or personal offline recommendations ?
What worries me is the Internet capacity to use up time most specifically mine. Sure sites like Amazon and other online retailers simplify, cheapen, give access to goods and services. Of course other sites act a new distribution channel for businesses but what worries me are the self referential sites , that talk about the Internet and promote the Internet. They are the ones that drive the constant buzz of excitement, and in some ways that causes my Web Deficit Disorder” ( I know there is a accepted term out there but if I start to Google for it I may be some time and who knows where I will end up)
